Safe Routes to School
• Safe Routes to School is a program to develop projects that allow kids to safely walk and bike to school , and prevent crashes in school zones
• Funding granted through the Safe Streets and Roads for All ( SS4A ) Program
• Developing a Safe Routes to School Master Plan for all campuses in Arlington
• Conducting demonstration projects around Speer and Thornton Elementary school campuses

Ann opened the floor for questions and answers . There were many questions and follow up discussions from the public meeting attendees . Question and discussion topics included :
• Overlap between the vehicle / motorcycle HIN and the pedestrian / bicycle HIN
• The crash data used for the plan and when data and the plan will be updated in the future
• Need for driver and bicyclist education about the rules of the road
• Areas where vegetation needs to be trimmed to maintain clear lines of sight
• Vehicle speeding
• Use of the Ask Arlington app to report safety issues
• State laws that make it illegal to use red light cameras in Texas
• Areas where sidewalk infrastructure is lacking , including neighborhoods north of Division Street , between Cooper and Collins
• Requests for more Police enforcement activity regarding safe driving
• Areas where roadway striping is faded
• Tra^ic calming measures
• Countermeasures related to pedestrian and bicyclist safety
• Role of the Texas Department of Transportation ( TxDOT ) in making safety improvements along their roadways ( e . g . Division , Collins , Cooper , Pioneer , etc .)
• Safety around school campuses
• How progress on the plan will be measured and reported
