Review of Vision Statement and Safety Data Nicole posed the question , “ Why do a transportation safety action plan ?” She explained that the City needs this comprehensive safety plan targeting serious injuries and fatal crashes aTecting all roadway users . The plan will provide clarity on priorities and strategies to improve road safety , give opportunities to proactively reduce the risk of severe collisions on roads , and facilitate agency partnerships and collaboration for implementation . This plan will also require the city to apply for an SS4A implementation grant .
She stressed that the action plan includes leadership , commitment , and goal setting as well as strategy and project selections .
Nicole pointed out that city leaders and staT , along with a diverse group of stakeholders , have committed to creating a safe transportation system in the city of Arlington . To make progress and achieve a shared goal of vision zero , time and resources will be focused on the road and human factors leading to fatal and severe crashes . Policy , education , enforcement , engineering , engagement , and equitable solutions have been prioritized in the Safe Streets Arlington Plan and will be our roadmap to make progress toward a safe system . The plan will be to reduce fatal and severe injuries by five percent annually to make progress toward a vision zero goal by 2050 .
