One of the more di-icult elements was filling out the application and consolidating data sources . There is a challenge making the data work together . The planning application has been completed , but the implementation grants are substantially harder . There was a neighborhood petition that was related to a 75-unit development with limited access and sidewalks . The development was approved without adequate consideration for safety or access . The community was disappointed with the level of engagement and outreach , and their issues were not adequately considered .
There was a street in South Arlington that needed maintenance . The project involved coordination with the county and resulted in sidewalks being added to the project area . The sidewalks did not connect initially , but the city was responsive to requests and finished the sidewalk connections . Community based education could be improved to address these issues . Outreach to various communities , specifically communities that will be a-ected by a project is an opportunity to improve .
Communication could be improved between the city and public so that people can be made aware of existing trends and hazards . There is an opportunity to improve data sharing through progress reports . There is a lack of emphasis on complete streets implementation and a lack of funding on grants for pop-up projects . Arlington could benefit from capitalization of funding opportunities for tactical urbanism . BENCHMARK NOTES
The Arlington fire code requires certain standards to be met with fire lanes and can only be changed with approval from the Fire Marshal .
Data availability and coordination could be improved , even between departments within the City of Arlington . There was a re-design project that ended up being the exact same as the original because of this lack of coordination . This is an opportunity to improve e-iciency . Projects are moving forward without considering related projects , so some work that is being done is redundant . Interdepartmental coordination is a big opportunity to improve e-iciency . This could be achieved through a review process and formalized project reviews and coordination . There are areas of town that are lacking in infrastructure investment . Outreach to these areas can be improved . Additionally , there is a lack of a clear prioritization process for improvements .
There are solutions being employed by other municipalities that are not being implemented in Arlington . There is an opportunity to follow the example of other cities that have had success with Vision Zero . There needs to be a toolkit that enables the city to e-iciently implement solutions in problematic areas . The city has an opportunity to coordinate with developers to improve safety in and around their potential projects .
A quarterly meeting between first responders is scheduled by TxDOT , but attendance from Arlington is lacking . This is an opportunity for first responders in Arlington to improve e-iciency and coordination .
Staying on budget , especially with inflation , could be managed more e-iciently . Prioritization is less clear than it could be .
