HOW TO COMPLETE A FLANGED CONNECTION
Step 1: Ensure that both of the flange faces are parallel
f f Using the bolts to pull poorly aligned flanges together may lead
to bolt failure and will damage the gasket
f f Poor alignment pinches the gasket unevenly and results in the
gasket being forced out
Step 3: Using a socket wrench and a ring spanner, tighten the
bolts in the order shown
Step 2: Fit the flange gasket and then fit and hand
tighten the bolts
f f Bolts should be free of damage, well lubricated and long
enough for the application.
f f Ensure that the washers are fitted prior to the nuts
f f Ensure that all of the holes in the flange are fitted with bolts
according to the drilling tables
f f Tighten the bolts over
three or four passes in the
indicated order
f f In the final pass, tighten
the bolts in a clockwise
direction from start to finish.
f f Over-tightening of the bolts
will result in a damaged
gasket and joint failure
