My SABECO classmates call me Speedy or
Tanayen but my certified birth names are
Michael Kongnyuy. If you can connect a
name to a tribe, then mine (Kongnyuy)
should be an easy catch. All the –nyuys are
from Banso where I was born. I have been
through a few schools. Started off pursuing
the priestly vocation at St Aloysius Minor
Seminary (SAMS) in Banso.
It took me a while (4 years) to realize that
the priesthood was not my
thing/call/vocation. My next move was to St
Sylvester’s Catholic Comprehensive High
School still in Banso where I took my OLevels. Thereafter, it was
about time I left the village for the “city”
school, St Bedes College (SABECO). I was in
SABECO for two years (2002-2004).
2. What did you like the most about St.
Bede’s when you attended?
I often refer to my classmates as Einsteins.
Every single one of them worked hard and
raised the academic bar so high that I had
no other choice but to reach for it. My
teachers, moreover, were very dedicated in
ensuring that we learned the material not
just for the purpose of passing our exams,
but also for our future careers. Its rational
to say that I was MOTIVATED to do better
everyday because everyone around me had
the drive to succeed.
3. What do you do today (work/study)?
Sadly (school is never fun) and gladly (on
the right career path), I am still a student
and will be for a long time. I am currently
studying medicine at the University of South
Florida.
4. How did you decide on your
career/academic path?
I have always loved all the sciences, though
I gave biology less attention. Now, I am
married to medicine. Most im
