21 My SABECO classmates call me Speedy or Tanayen but my certified birth names are Michael Kongnyuy. If you can connect a name to a tribe, then mine (Kongnyuy) should be an easy catch. All the –nyuys are from Banso where I was born. I have been through a few schools. Started off pursuing the priestly vocation at St Aloysius Minor Seminary (SAMS) in Banso. It took me a while (4 years) to realize that the priesthood was not my thing/call/vocation. My next move was to St Sylvester’s Catholic Comprehensive High School still in Banso where I took my OLevels. Thereafter, it was about time I left the village for the “city” school, St Bedes College (SABECO). I was in SABECO for two years (2002-2004). 2. What did you like the most about St. Bede’s when you attended? I often refer to my classmates as Einsteins. Every single one of them worked hard and raised the academic bar so high that I had no other choice but to reach for it. My teachers, moreover, were very dedicated in ensuring that we learned the material not just for the purpose of passing our exams, but also for our future careers. Its rational to say that I was MOTIVATED to do better everyday because everyone around me had the drive to succeed. 3. What do you do today (work/study)? Sadly (school is never fun) and gladly (on the right career path), I am still a student and will be for a long time. I am currently studying medicine at the University of South Florida. 4.
