Dr. Charles and Marjorie A. Gliozzo Fund for
Nurses and Caregivers
Dr. Charles A. Gliozzo gained experience as a
prime observer of the importance of nursing
after his wife Marjorie suffered a stroke in 2012.
He was impressed with the loving care conveyed
to her during treatment and recovery. According
to Dr. Charles A. Gliozzo, nurses and caregivers
are the “backbone” to the medical profession.
The purpose of this fund is to provide support for
students that meet the general scholarship criteria
set forth by the College of Nursing who are, or are
dependents of, current or previous care providers
with an expressed interest in a career at a nursing
home, skilled nursing center or assisted living
facility. Priority will be given to applicants who have
at least one year of experience in a care facility and
have an expressed interest in a career focused on
gerontology.

Sergeant Leonard Bernard Graham III
Nursing Scholarship
Established by his beloved parents, this scholarship
honors USMC Sergeant Leonard Bernard Graham III
whose goal was to attend Michigan State University
College of Nursing. Leonard enlisted in the United
States Marine Corps in 2008 to make a difference
in the world. He served in Afghanistan and received
many citations for his bravery.
Leonard always
cared about the needs of others before his own. His
life ended tragically on September 20, 2013.
To help keep Leonard’s dream alive, this scholarship
will provide financial assistance to a Michigan State
University College of Nursing student. Priority
will be given to a student who is an active Marine,
reservist, or honorably discharged veteran of any
armed branch.

Lehto-Miller Family PhD Student Fellowship
This fellowship was established by Rebecca Lehto of
Michigan State University’s College of Nursing and
her husband James “Jim” Miller. Together, Rebecca
and Jim wish to promote the enrollment and
continuing support of nurses pursuing their PhD at
the MSU College of Nursing. They hope to sponsor
students who will be inspired to build a program of
nursing research and a career that would contribute
to nursing science in a research-intensive academic
institute.
Recipient preference is given to those newly
accepted incoming students to the PhD in Nursing
program, or to students making substantial progress
in their established PhD program. The fellowship is
reserved for US Citizens and special attention will
be given to students who are interested in research
that relates to cancer adaptation including mental
health, end of life, and palliative care issues. The
fellowship may be awarded to one to two students
per year, and potentially may be renewed for one (1)
additional year, as long as the student remains in the
PhD program and meets academic qualifications.
