ANXIETY !

Today , let ’ s talk about … Anxiety !

We all experience anxiety from time to time in our lives . On occasion , however , people find themselves in such stressful situations and the anxiety becomes so severe , it ’ s all they can think about , dramatically decreasing their ability to function on a daily basis .
Formally , anxiety is described as ( 1 ) “ apprehensive uneasiness or nervousness over impending or anticipated ill ”. ( 2 ) medical anxiety : an abnormal and overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear often marked by physical signs , by doubt concerning the reality and nature of the threat , and by self-doubt about one ’ s capacity to cope with it ; b : mentally distressing concern or interest ; c : a strong desire mixed with doubt , fear , or uneasiness . ( Merriam Webster Dictionary )
Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder
We all experience anxiety in different ways . Some are related to stressful experiences going on in our lives , some are due our thoughts . Those with anxiety may have recurring (‘ ruminating ’, intrusive ) thoughts , restlessness , and ‘ sense of dread ’. Some may be able to identify exactly why they are experiencing these feelings , however , others may not be able to understand how or why these feelings are being triggered .
Anxiety is universal . It affects all ages ( even young children , adolescents , adults & the elderly ), all races & ethnic groups , all income levels ( poor , middle class , wealthy ) and both males and females .
We will all experience differing levels of anxiety in our lives . How we handle the episodes of anxiety we experience have a direct bearing on the quality of our life . Learning how to deal with anxiety prepares us for times when we may hit ‘ rough patches ’ later in life . We can address anxiety , no matter the level or extent , but it may require professional help .
