veryday Leaders. Who are they? And what do they have to do with college? Everything. Your choices have lead you through the doors of St. Lawrence College for a reason, or many reasons: A need to retrain and hone skills to succeed in a more vital workplace, plans to start your education here and move forward or you’ve found a passion that can be turned into a career. Whatever the reasons; what you do with your time here is what turns you into the skilled professional you may be in a few short, short years. I am going to be brief and clear. I am writing this message to our membership, the students of St. Lawrence College, and it’s about three things:
Morgan’s Message
Excitement Enthusiasm Everyday Leadership
Come to the college excited every day. You’ll be more productive, you’ll make lasting, quality relationships, you will take in more information with less effort and you will succeed because you’ve practiced a mindset of success. No one is going to force you to be excited and you’ll be lucky when someone brings you along for the ride. It’s up to you to make the most of your time here so you might as well start today. Be genuinely enthusiastic. If you have yet to be passionately possessed with something you’re doing; you’ve got some work to do. Find the things here that make your time worthwhile and be passionate. You’ll influence others positively, you’ll make your classes more lively and you’ll learn more effectively. Take initiative and commit to success. Leadership isn’t running an event, or being in student government. Most leaders don’t even know that’s what they are. They lead class discussion, ask the tough questions, they help their classmates. These people believe helping each other is part of work and learning. They build their own skills and lead others to success by being dedicated. Kindness is a kind of everyday leadership. You don’t have to be a politician, a manager or a business owner to be a leader. Positive, excited, enthusiastic people are the best leaders we’ve got. It’s not always possible to feel exactly, 100% every day. Everyone has those days; you’re not getting everything done, there’s sharpness in everyone’s tone and it’s making you want to turn the volume off. It’s fair and okay to have those days but it’s in how you deal with your friends, classmates and professors that matter. Treat them with respect and respect yourself. You deserve the education you are going to receive and the friends you will make this year but you still have to earn them.
It’s about choosing excitement over boredom, enthusiasm over apathy and committing to being a leader, every day.
