PROJECTS
An interior rendering showcases a glimpse of the mall’ s retail offering.
The major portion of the mall roof was specified to be insulated with 100mm thick Starlite White faced insulation from D & D Roof Insulations.“ Starlite was the first faced fibre flexible roof insulation material in South Africa to achieve an A1( noncombustible) fire rating according to SANS 428. This therefore ensures absolute peace of mind for both the developer and insurance underwriters,” highlights Bryn Doherty, managing director of D & D Roof Insulations.
Over 30 local subcontractors appointed to the project have been hard at work to ensure the deliverables are met and the construction phrase is completed within deadline. The developers have also ploughed funding into uplifting infrastructure in the area, by building a new road and upgrading the existing roads, installing traffic lights and implementing stormwater drainage, sewage and an electricity substation.
Taking Mamelodi by storm
The regional shopping centre has been earmarked as a catalyst for driving and sustaining future development in the vicinity. With creating sophisticated developments as its main priority, the developers also aim to cater specifically for the needs of local communities, such as Mamelodi.
Of the 1 000 workforce on site, around 90 % comprise of local residents and Mamelodi-based subcontractors. In total, some three thousand jobs are expected to be created from the overall development, ranging from temporary construction jobs to future permanent employment for the community to take advantage of.
According to NAD chief executive officer Japie van Niekerk, the impact of this employment boost will in turn improve the lives of many Mamelodi residents. The mall has already, and will continue, to create opportunities for future generations to come.
Through a solid partnership, Mamelodi community members, local police and mall developers joined forces to ensure and promote the safe and successful completion of the development.
The mall opening will also see the re-launch of Mamelodi Plaza and its neighbouring fuel station. The grand opening of Mams Mall is set for late November 2018.
