Mamelodi, the much anticipated
75 000m² Mams Mall is expected
to bring monumental change to the local
retail and social landscape of one of
Pretoria’s biggest budding regions.
Located along the busy Tsamaya Road in
Mamelodi’s thriving Mahube Valley, the
prestigious mixed-use regional mall will
soon welcome world-class shopping and
entertainment to the area, redefining the
way the local community members’ live,
work, shop and play.
Home to more than half a million people
and regarded as one of the fastest growing
middle-class suburbs in South Africa,
Mamelodi is rapidly becoming a leading
commercial and social node. Owned and
developed by a joint venture between New
Africa Developments (NAD) and Resilient
Properties, the mall aims to transform the
eastern part of Mamelodi into a cohesive
CBD for the region.
Expected to soon become a major local
landmark in the area, Mams Mall will offer
the convenience of major national retailers,

banks, entertainment and services all in a
beautiful ultra-modern and comfortable
environment. The mall will feature a
comprehensive variety of more than
120 stores, close to 3 000 parking bays,
state-of-the-art technology and
contemporary finishes.
With a lack of lifestyle facilities in the
area, the mall includes a large
entertainment area featuring fast food
outlets, restaurants, a six-cinema Nu Metro,
a Planet Fitness gym with indoor running
track and swimming pool, as well as a play
area for children. The site also
accommodates public offices for the South
African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and
the Department of Home Affairs, as well as
Mams FM community radio station.
Mamelodi Plaza, a smaller existing retail
establishment, has also been incorporated
into the major development. Mamelodi
Plaza’s stores have been revamped and
incorporated into the mall. To further
accommodate the surrounding
communities, the mall boasts sufficient
parking bays and five main entrances, each
with a drop-off point for taxis. The mall is
also accompanied by a private Curro school
and will soon welcome a private hospital –
construction is set to commence soon.
Breaking ground,
breaking barriers
Envisioned to be a game changer for
Mamelodi, Mams Mall has been developed
on a parcel of prime land which was
purchased about five years ago. In January
2016, Renico Earthworks and Civils were
awarded the contract to undertake the
partial demolition of the existing shopping
centre and carry out the bulk of the ground
and earthworks for the new exciting mall.
Completed in April 2016, the eco-friendly
earthworks involved the recycling of
existing materials – about 6 500m³ of
bricks, mortar and concrete generated from
the demolished buildings was crushed on
site and converted into aggregate for use in
the final layer works for the parking area. In
addition, Renico were also awarded the
contract for the construction of a 200m
stormwater culvert on site.
