It is tough out there !

Covid-19 aftermath

There is a shortage of steel thanks to a monopolistic situation created by our government , prices are screaming sky high , vaccinations are way behind , and I will go so far as to say that by the time this is read , we will still be behind with vaccinations .
Spend is generally stifled in all sectors simply because we do not know when we can all get back to business . Infrastructure remains stagnant which certainly does not help our sector .
Nonetheless we keep on providing information that is useful and helpful .
CAHF provide interesting input for first-time home buyers and offer thoughts on the steps to follow when this momentous decision is faced , especially at this time of uncertainty .
A great one-on-one interview with Dudu Phoswa of the Social Housing Regulatory Authority ( SHRA ) provides an excellent picture of this aspect of Affordable Housing and the empowerment of people who were unable to enter the property market .
We have extracted from the 2020 SHRA annual report which provides an excellent overview of SHRA as well as their progress in providing housing .
TUHF turned 18 years and we bring you an article that takes us through the progress and achievements of this organisation during this period .
Gert Minnaar of STBB provides a thought-provoking article on the issue of agricultural property as well as raising some pertinent issues around a letter from the department .
The Western Cape is doing good work in the sector and our article shows the activity around providing housing in the region .
Our project comes from the Alleysroad Group who have ambitious and achievable plans to deliver 10 000 homes over the next ten years . The IKAMVA Mews project , which we review in this issue shows just where affordable housing can be positioned by implementing the integrated policy of government .
So , after the negative start to this column , affordable housing is still delivering despite the obstacles and annoying virus that is covid . The aftermath nevertheless will be extended if we dilly dally with getting people vaccinated . So here is hoping that as a country we get moving , far smarter and quicker than in the past .
