The length of a rugby
match in minutes. The
match is divided into two
halves of 40 minutes each.
FOULS
Foul play involves
doing anything in the
game that is against
the rules of rugby.
TACKLING
A tackle occurs when the
ball carrier is held by one
or more opponents and is
brought to ground.
Foul play include:
- Obstructing opponents,
- Punching, trampling, kicking
or tripping players,
- Tackling too early, too late,
above the shoulders, and;
- tackling a player when they
are in the air.
OFFSIDE RULE
In general play, a player is
offside if the player is in front of
a team-mate who is carrying the
ball, or in front of a team-mate
who last played the ball.
ADVANTAGE RULE
The Law of advantage takes
precedence over most other Laws
and its purpose is to make play more
continuous with fewer stoppages for
infringements. When the result of
an infringement by one team is that
their opposing team may gain an
advantage, the referee does not whistle
immediately for the infringement.
