Moortown FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG “I took my son, Nick, down to the club when a friend, Steve Vickers, started the Junior rugby Section down there. Nick plays now over at Liverpool University; his main position is Fullback and when he is back from Uni he always visits the club. My company, CBA, has sponsored club for the past seven or eight years. Carl Thewlis, the Club Chairman, has done an immense job in turning he club around.” Chris Bell has now seen not just them but around 25 players over the last two years come through to play senior rugby across all three teams. drink, sing and socialise as one Club. RC: How’s the general mood down at the club at the moment? CTJ: To say that we have installed a totally new coaching team and we have had a fair few youth players come through, new players join and players from the second XV pushing their way into the “no train - no play” policy the year has been excellent. We’ve fielded three teams pretty much every week and competition for shirts is high. CTJ: It’s difficult to explain the social side at Moortown Rugby Club. It is certainly a place that once you’ve joined, not many people leave! The atmosphere is fantastic. Whatever background you come from, religion, race, orientation, ability or gender there is a space for you at Moortown. I suppose you could say we are Club of misfits that may not have as much fun elsewhere. Julie, our Club Director come Chef makes sure that the lads have a nice warm meal at the end of each training session and this makes a huge difference not only to attending numbers but to the social side after training. There are no “cliques” in the bar after games, players from all teams know each other and RC: How would you say the year has gone for the club so far? RC: What are your plans for 2019? CTJ: Enjoy it! Our recent form across the senior section suggest a couple of promotions but no one is getting carried away; a strong top half finish would be a success for us. We can’t wait to see our two Colts, Cameron and Luckas, pull on their Yorkshire shirts and hopefully a lot of our juniors can go watch their game and be inspired by their achievements. LOVE YOUR SPACE Transform your home into a grand design with stunning doors, windows and roofing systems from our experts. RC: How important is youth rugby to the club? CTJ: It’s almost everything! I am a strong believer that your First and Second XV need to be playing at the highest level the Club can support them to do so otherwise your junior talent understandably look elsewhere. It is kind of one compliments the other. We are fully committed to providing our youth section with the best facilities, coaches and support they can get while also showing them that even if you aren’t the next Jonny Wilkinson there is a place for you in Rugby and at Moortown! With our new Junior Chair Lady Mrs Lee Lyons and her all Lady management committee, shall we say, our organisation has improved immensely! Having the Mum’s in charge has been a breath of fresh air for our Club! “I played colts rugby for Moortown RFC before work took precedent. Although I played for another club I did return, playing mainly wing forward. I stopped playing around the age of 30 but have always kept in contact with the club and am proud to be associated with their success. Moortown is a great community and family orientated club and I would like to congratulate everyone on a great season and pass on my best wishes for the remainder of the 2018/2019 campaign.” Steve Bromberg CALL US TODAY 0800 121 4809 Our lines are open Mon-Fri – 9am-6pm W: www.expressbifolds.co.uk 88 Issue 83
