Moortown
RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB
Moortown RUFC is a fine example of the important role that a club can play in their
local community. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Chairman Carl
Thewlis-Johns to find out more about how they have been getting along lately.
RC: How long have you been involved
and what first attracted you to the club?
CTJ: I joined the Club in 2007 as Head
Coach and I have been here ever since!
Now as Club Chairman I have some new
coaches in place that actually know what
they are doing! Sam Cook and Danny
Monk took over from Alex Ball who had
previously led the Club to its first title in
ten years so the pressure was on! They
have revolutionised the way we play
and now, whilst sitting 2nd in Yorkshire
One, we play some very attractive
rugby and have between 40 and 60 guys
training twice a week!
RC: What are the most challenging and
rewarding aspects of your role?
CTJ: Definitely the most challenging
aspect is keeping everyone happy! You
want every coach, player and team to get
the best from the facilities and space but
managing that can be hectic when we
have such little space for how big we are
as a Club.
The most rewarding part is seeing young
players achieve their personal successes.
This year we see Cameron Farish and
Luckas Sableman-Blue playing for the
Yorkshire U18’s. Both products of our
junior section and pathway plan that
