Dinnington “Both of those things pale though, when we perform. The satisfaction of seeing the things you have worked on, suddenly working on the field and the lift that gives the boys is incredible. My biggest reward though is seeing individual players who lack confidence, grow into their roles, as they begin to understand techniques and what they are doing - it’s kind of what keeps me going. “The 1XV has lost key players which will affect things going into next season, but every problem is often accompanied with an opportunity so we just have to find these and move on “We should never underestimate the power of volunteers, but we should be mindful of the limitations you place upon your progress, if you don’t use them properly. “We should not fear change either as it is the one constant and even when it is thrust upon you, as with the loss of players from the 1XV, it does open new doors as well. “We are now looking to rebuild the teams with a view to positive promotion of players at each level. We have established a new senior management structure to assist in this and are now looking for buy-in from players as we approach pre-season training. “We have loosely implemented a 5 year plan which at least gives a skeleton to our thoughts and we will look to development this further as we progress along its path, but most importantly, hopefully kick starts our creative energy and gets us motivated again. “Youth rugby is massively important to any club. Both my boys came through age grades at Dinnington to play 1XV here so I know that more than most. What is vital is the way the age grade coaches are supported in their endeavours, because it is through them that a steady stream of players bolster our senior set up. “Ensuring players make the transition into senior rugby is probably the most difficult aspect of the whole process. Boys come through Colts which is by far and away the most difficult age group as the boys find cars, women, beer and their freedom - why would you need anything else, particularly as they may also have had a negative experience coming through district and county set ups.
