N ewcastle Falcons have enjoyed a fine start to their Premiership campaign this time around with the improvements made at the club in recent times being reflected in their results . Director of Rugby Dean Richards recently took the time to tell Rugby Club Magazine more about the good work that they ’ ve been doing .
This Season
He told us , “ On the whole we are pretty happy with how the season has gone . We won five of our first ten Premiership games and picked up a couple of losing bonus points , which is a long way ahead of where we were at the same point last season . We have had to contend with a lot of long term injuries to key players , but the pleasing thing has been the depth of our squad and how guys have stepped up to take their opportunities .
As pleased as we are with the general start to the season , there are still areas for further improvement . Our game plan has been effective when we have stuck to script - we just need to do it for longer during games .”
Youth with the first team , so they are well aware of how we run the senior side . Our senior academy players train full time with the first team squad and we also have great links with our local clubs so that guys can have experience of playing adult rugby .”
Community
“ Community is at the heart of everything we do and our foundation are out there every day working with schools , junior clubs and community groups . We really lead the way in terms of how we engage with the people in our region and it is evident on match day when you see the number of kids ’ teams , community clubs and other visiting groups enjoying a day at Kingston Park . Our players are great ambassadors and are always very giving of their time .”

“ We as a club have always placed a huge importance on bringing through our own players . The North East and Cumbria has a huge talent pool , our academy staff are excellent in the way they bring things through and we are not afraid to give first team opportunities to these guys . The same cannot be said of all teams at our level , but we have a lot of trust in the ability and temperament of our young players .
