They are led by the team of President Peter Barry and Chairman Andrew Kilby and the club has been progressing well under their guidance. Their first team has made a fine start to their current league campaign, having put together a record of eight wins and two defeats from their ten league matches. This has left them sitting in second place in the table with forty points on the board. This should provide them with the perfect platform from which to go on and put together a successful campaign. As long as they are able to keep their current group of players fit they should be in with a good chance of mounting a serious championship challenge. Wymondham is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a number of youth sides in place. These teams look to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress over the coming years. The club recently received a boost when secretary of state for communities and local government, Sajid Javid, overturned a decision on their development plan. Speaking to www.wymondhamandattleboroughmercury. co.uk, Wymondham’s Director of Rugby David Brunton said, “This is vital to the future of Wymondham RFC.” “Yet we have just two pitches of our own, playing surfaces that are mudbaths for months on end, completely inadequate parking and changing facilities and a clubhouse that is creaking at the seams. “Now though we have the chance to create something really special for our club, for the local community and for rugby in Norfolk.” With a team going well on the field, an excellent youth set up and plans for improved facilities there appears to be plenty of reason for optimism at Wymondham RFC. Everyone at Rugby Club Magazine wishes them the best of luck for the future. Tan Cars specialise in providing vehicles for all your local and long distance journeys.
