amongst others). It is clear that having a
well-supported, quality Academy set up
is of great importance to the long term
development of the club as a whole.
The Academy set up is vital in
helping young players mature and adapt
to the more physical demands of senior
rugby. By encouraging senior players
to assist with Academy training and
then supporting Academy players as
they make a gradual transition to adult
rugby we believe that we can support the
players to support the club and the game
as a whole.”

“Minety Rugby Club is at the very
heart of our community. Minety is a small
village in North Wiltshire consisting of a
school, a couple of pubs and our sports
facility, which is overseen and managed

Skittles team.
We involve the local community
as much as possible, and endeavour
to spread our wings beyond our
boundaries too, by holding various
events and activities, which are open to
all from far and wide. In addition to a
wide range of social events, which are
open to club members and others alike,
Head of Boarding and Boys Games James Barton
took the time to tell us more about the School and
the work that they’re doing in the local community.
He told us, “This is my sixteenth year with the school.
I’ve been Head of Boys Games for ten years now; the
role is certainly a busy one and one I thoroughly enjoy.
“We’re working to develop sport not only within the
school but also within the community as a whole. We
want to spread the word of sport beyond the school
itself as we believe that all children should have the
opportunity to experience a variety of sports as it
plays a key role in the development of our pupils here.
“We’ve had a relationship with Minety RFC for a few
years now with them inviting us to attend their rugby
schools tag tournament. They came across to an event
we set up at Cricklade and we’re looking to build on that
relationship. The event was quite small this year but went
very well and we’ll look to develop it over the coming years.
“The season went well for us as a whole. There has
been a lot of change for rugby as a whole at schoolboy
level and we’ve embraced the new rules of play whilst
looking to retain the games traditional values and ethos.
“Over the coming years we are aiming to build a relationship
with the local community as a whole, developing the
opportunity for children of all ages to benefit from the game
both on the field and off it where the core values can play a
crucial role in children’s development.”
