“Of course, we lose many of our ex Academy players when they transfer to
universities and colleges up and down the country but it is very satisfying to see
so many making huge sacrifices in terms of time and money to come back to
Minety on a regular basis.”
In summary, there’s always been a
nice, friendly feel, however, this season
the success on the pitch and an enhanced
social programme has resulted in a really
good atmosphere running throughout the
club.”
Youth
“Youth rugby is hugely important to
Minety RFC. We are proud that we have
developed a very large junior section
ranging right through from Under 7’s (we
actually take children of both sexes from
their 5th birthday) to the Academy squad,
made up of 16 to 18 year olds.

Each team has its own set of qualified
coaches and team managers, overseen by
our Director of Coaching, Cliff Garland,
whose tireless work behind the scenes
for many years was recently rewarded
with the BBC West Unsung Hero Award
at the 2015 BBC Sports Personality of the
Year show. We have regularly attracted
in excess of 200 juniors to our training
sessions on Sunday mornings.
Over the years we have developed our
Academy section and supported youth
players to take coaching qualifications and
involve themselves in training sessions for
our younger players. We have an active
outreach programme that culminates in
an annual primary schools tag festival
which attracts over 200 players. Around
40% of the senior playing membership has
come through our junior section.”
