James Martin of club sponsor JCS Personnel recently spoke to Rugby
Club Magazine about his positive association with Redditch RFC,
saying, “I moved to the area from Motherwell, Scotland in 1991 at the
age of 28 and although I was a footballer my mate, who worked in the
local council at the time, pointed out that my nimble toes wouldn’t go
amiss on the rugby field.

a knee injury although he carried on in
various committee positions for the club.
My brother Andy, a very good rugby
player, was a also a great club member as
player, captain and coach; in fact many
of the youngsters he coached are now
successful 1st team players.
“I personally have a long association
with the club and remember being there
with my dad. One of my main jobs was
to clear stones off the pitch. After playing
for the club as a 2nd row forward and as
an occasional number 8 I hung my boots
up about 5 years ago due to injury.
“North Mids runs a three tier cup
comp, Cup, Bowl and Vase, and last

I started off as hooker, a position I played at school, and then slotted
in to fly half or full back positions. That was 25 years ago however a
recurring shoulder challenge has kept me from playing this season.
My son Craig is a 2nd row player for the first team and I look forward
to going on tour with him and the boys in April. Redditch Rugby Club
and the people down there have been and are a big part of my life
and I would like to wish them all the best of health and success in
their next 50 years!”
