Atmosphere
“The three games at MK Stadium means that there is a
mood of anticipation for the RWC…like nothing we’ve
felt before. We also have one of our ex-players (Ed
Slater of Leicester Tigers: an MK junior) on the
verge of his first full England Cap (he has played
for England v Barbarians and also captained the
mid-week touring side in NZ last year which
were both non cap games). The senior’s rugby
here was not good last year and we had a poor
season, so the future is one of ‘rebuild’ with a new
coaching team and new energy. All in all, the outlook
is very good.”
The Summer
“We have an active Touch programme here with 140+ young people
in a league structure. We start preseason fitness in July and then full
training later in July. The summer also heralds our large Sevens event,
the MK7s. A huge festival of rugby with 44 teams: Elite, Senior, Social
and Women’s. People come from far and wide for the event and it is
now on the Sevens Map. We also throw a festival (food, music, a few
drinks) at the same time, so a real crowd always attends. We have some
French sides coming over this year, so one might say we have gone
‘International’ too.
