ELLON
Ellon RFC is a great example of how a club can play a vital role in the local community.
Rugby Club Magazine caught up with Club Representative Gareth Kemp to find out more
about the good work that they’ve been doing lately.
Involvement
He started by telling us about how
he came to the club, saying, “I have
been at Ellon now for 5½ years after
relocating to the area from Sutherland.
I Moved to the North East of Scotland
to make sure my children got into
rugby as there was none none where
I lived.
I was attracted to the NE Scotland as
a region that is in major growth and
development, and in particular to Ellon
as a club which had a good Youth
Section and a first team playing just
high enough to attract players.”
Enjoyable Times
“I first started as a micro coaching 6
and 7 year olds! Those were some
great times developing young boys
and girls in Tag Rugby. It is so good
to see those move on to become
great players in the youth set up. A
particular highlight was receiving the
PCS accreditation from Allan Lawson
in recent times after some 8 months of
flat out work!
My present P7 Team is a fantastic
group of boys and girls. They are
strong, dedicated players and a
number have potential to go far. Not
just the boys, as one of the girls has
great talent also. I love working with is
group. My son Dylan Kemp receiving
the most improved player at P5 in
2013.
Whilst coaching the U18 last season,
we played at the Scotland National
7s at Scotstoun and the lads won the
Plate! A great day out with a great
team; so proud of those boys.”
