LLANGOLEN LLANGOLLEN Llangollen RUFC is based at Tower Field on Tower Road in Denbighshire and their first team currently competes in Division 3 North of the SWALEC Leagues. They are led by Chairman Mel Roberts who is supported by Secretary David Hinchcliffe and the club has made a considerable amount of progress under their guidance. Their first team has made a superb start to the current campaign, having compiled a record of 3 wins from their first three matches. This sees them sitting just behind the leaders with a game in hand and 14 points on the board. So long as they are able to keep up their recent level of performance they should find themselves top of the pile before too long. If they are able to retain their current group of players then they appear to have everything in place to allow them to put together a successful campaign. A major positive of the team’s early season form has been the attacking brand of rugby that they have managed to produce. This has been reflected by the fact that they have racked up an impressive 105 points at a rate of more than 30 per game. This has certainly meant that any supporters attending their fixtures have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind the team in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue. Llangollen is a club that plays a vital role in the local community, providing as many people as possible with an opportunity to play the game. With this in mind they have recently started up a ladies team who are led by Victoria Lightbown and have begun training on Sunday’s. They encourage anybody interested in getting involved with the side to get in touch and will provide people with a warm welcome. With the success of the England team at the World Cup interest in the women’s game is sure to grow and so now seems like the perfect time to get a side up and running. There is much to admire about the set-up that Llangollen currently has in place both on and off the field. Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come and everyone at Rugby Club Magazine would like to wish them the best of luck. www.rugby-club.biz 103
