YARM YARM Yarm Rugby Club is based on Wass Way in Cleveland and their first team competed in the Durham/Northumberland Division 3 last time around. They are led by the team of President Steve Passman and Chairman Gary West and they are looking to progress under their guidance. Last season it would be fair to say that the team did not enjoy the season that they would have liked, having put together a record of having won 3 and lost 17 of their 20 matches. This left them sitting near the bottom of the table with 16 points on the board. Their attentions will now have turned towards the 2014/15 campaign and will be determined to gain some improved results. It will be important for them to get off to a good start in order to build some momentum early on. “The club is also able to boast some high quality facilities.” Yarm is not a team that focuses solely upon their senior section as they also have a strong youth set-up. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment in order to help them develop their skills. It is important for any side to be able to produce their own players, particularly in the current economic climate. Coaching staff overseeing the youth section are confident that they have a number of players currently involved with the potential to go on and represent the team at senior level. at their Wass Way base. They suffered the set back of having their clubhouse destroyed by arson in March 2008 but bounced back quickly and were able to open up a new facility on the 22nd August 2009. Having a good set of facilities is vital for a rugby club as it can allow them to gain additional revenue. It can also help to boost the social side of the set-up which is important for creating an environment in which players are able to enjoy the game. Although Yarm did not perhaps enjoy the season that they would have liked, this should not take away from the good work that they do in their local community. Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come and everyone at Rugby Club Magazine would like to wish them the best of luck. www.rugbyclub.biz 21
