Taxis: Metered taxis are available 24-hours a day and are standardized with a flag down rate of 35 Baht for the first 2 kms. and
around 5 Baht for succeeding kms. Passengers must pay toll fees if using the expressways.
Make sure that the taxi driver turns on the meter once you get inside the taxi and also you have enough small bills or loose change
as some drivers often don’t have enough.
If taxis do not have meters, fares must be agreed upon before leaving. The amount will vary depending on the distance, traffic
situation, weather (if it is raining the fare might be more) and the negotiating skills of the passenger.
Average fares in Bangkok ranges between 50 Baht to 200 Baht. No tip is necessary but it is always a nice gesture.
Taxi drivers normally change shifts around 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM and may not accommodate you unless your destination is
convenient to them.
Tuk-Tuk: The colorful, three-wheeled, open-air “sam-lor” tuk-tuks are renowned for their capability to maneuver into the tightest
spots, offering passengers an interesting and adrenaline-filled ride. Accommodating two passengers (sometimes three or four at a
squeeze), it is best for short trips during off-peak hours. Settle the fare before proceeding with the trip. Normally cheaper than
metered taxis, the fare should never exceed 200 Baht per trip.
