Invincible Molly
The little dog that could
Molly is a small Patterdale Terrier crossbreed
who arrived at West Hatch with a bad case
of mange which had left her bereft of a
coat and with numerous open sores all
over her body.
Since Molly’s condition was contagious,
she had to endure two months in quarantine
to prevent the infection spreading. The staff
looking after Molly had to wear protective
overalls and gloves and so despite our
best efforts, it was very difficult to give
her the cuddles and affection that she so
desperately craved. Medicated baths and
tablets were also part of Molly’s life for
these two long months.
Slowly but surely the mange responded
to treatment. Molly’s coat began to grow
back and finally she was given the all-clear.
She was then allowed to move into the
kennel blocks with the other dogs and
enjoy the company and affection of staff
and volunteers on daily walks. For sheer
resilience and perseverance we had to
applaud Molly. Not only had she survived
all this but she remained a sweet, cheeky
girl who loved a walk, playing ball and
cuddles on the sofa.
Molly o
n arrival
Molly’s story is one small example of how
the efforts of Inspectors, veterinary staff,
animal care assistants, volunteers and
especially her new owners have helped
transform the life of a little dog who never
gave up. Good luck Molly!
The final chapter in Molly’s journey was to
find a home. Shortly after being put on our
adoption website a wonderful family in
Dorset contacted us and asked to visit Molly
on the same day. They were not put off by
the prospect of Molly being on skin and eye
treatment for the rest of her life and were
keen to go ahead with the adoption.
The Friends of West Hatch have kindly
agreed to fund part of this treatment and
we are very grateful for this assistance.
Molly has now gone to her new home and
has settled in wonderfully.
