RSPCA Friends of West Hatch Newsletter Summer 2018 | issue 14 | Page 2

Welcome, Friends! by Ron Hill, Chairman Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter! As always, domestic animals and wildlife have continued to find their way to West Hatch. Last year the Centre admitted over 5,000 animals and birds – all of whom had gotten into various kinds of trouble. Due to the bad storms earlier in the year over 100 seals were cared for. There have also been a lot of domestic animals admitted by the Inspectorate because Photo on i t i t e p Com er! n n i W 2 of abuse, neglect, cruelty, etc. We are in the 21st century and still people fail to appreciate that animals are living creatures who have a right to be treated with respect, care and compassion. We can only hope the message will one day get through. Meanwhile we want to thank you for your continued support and interest and hope that you and your pets have a great summer. This year, we ran our online fun photo competition for the second year and raised an impressive £354! The categories were: humorous, action, buddy and senior – and the response was fantastic. Each category was voted for by our Facebook followers, who then voted again for the overall winner. We think you will agree that this photo, taken by Steph Toogood, of two adorable rat buddies is a worthy winner!
