A well travelled
tortoise returns
Back in deepest darkest December, RSPCA
Inspectors brought to the Centre an
elderly stray tortoise. She appeared to be
fit and healthy but was showing signs of
wanting to hibernate.
Staff settled her into her accommodation
and we hoped that an owner would be
missing her. No one immediately came
forward so a member of staff placed some
information about her on lost and found
stray tortoise sites and on social media. As a
result, it wasn’t too long before we located
her family, who were beside themselves
when they discovered she was missing!
They were so grateful that she was safe and
they had found their beloved tortoise BB,
who we discovered is over 70 years old.
Are you green fingered & outdoorsy?
We have an amazing team of volunteers
at the Centre helping in animal care
roles. However this isn’t the only way
you can help!
We have enjoyed some lovely hot days
already this year but along with the rain
showers in between this has been the
perfect weather for the grass and weeds
to grow. With more than 22 acres of land
you can imagine this is quite a lot for one
person to tackle! Perhaps you have a couple
of hours you could spare to help Mark
our maintenance worker keep on top of
the gardening? There is always so much
to do and this is the perfect volunteering
opportunity for people who aren’t able to
commit to helping on a weekly basis but still
want to do something for us.
As well as tea and coffee on tap we hope
you will find this a rewarding experience and
enjoy meeting other like minded people.
If you fancy helping with some weeding,
pruning, edging, etc then please visit

interest. If you want any more information
then please speak to Sarah on 0300 123 8152.
