Foster appeal: will you help? The volunteer role of a fosterer is a crucial one and can make a huge difference to the rehabilitation of an animal and their chances of finding a forever home. We try to rehome our animals as quickly as possible, but if they are involved in a prosecution case we could have them in our care for long periods. Some animals need one-to-one care or perhaps don’t cope well in an animal centre environment and this is where our team of fantastic fosterers come in. There are two types of fostering roles at the RSPCA: • Fosterers for animals ready to be rehomed • Fosterers for case animals whilst the legal proceedings take place If you are interested in fostering for us, please visit: www.rspca.org.uk/ getinvolved/volunteer/whatcanido All fosterers are responsible for the welfare of the animal in their care and are a crucial part in the rehabilitation of the animal. Thank you, Juliet! We were extremely proud in August to present Vet Nurse Juliet Pearce with her 20 year long service award. Juliet has seen many changes over the last 20 years, and has worked with quite a few different vets during her time here. We have calculated that she has assisted in over 15,000 operations, so there aren’t many sights she hasn’t come across. She has also helped to handrear many kittens - one of which, Freddie, now lives with her. Throughout the last 20 years Juliet has been consistently reliable, knowledgeable and calm – despite whatever emergencies happen to be occurring. Last year a cat was admitted with a crossbow bolt embedded in its lung and she still refused to panic! Here’s hoping there will be another 20 years to come!
