INTO AFRICA
Wetlands, waterfalls, and the“ Lake of Stars”
Descending from the highlands, the road meanders toward the tranquil wetlands of Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve. The contrast is striking, from mountain air to mirrored water, from grassy uplands to reed-choked lagoons alive with birds and hippos.
At dawn, the marsh stirs: elephants wade through mist, egrets rise like smoke, buffalo graze along the water’ s edge. It’ s an intimate, almost meditative place, perfect for those who appreciate silence and stillness.
Further east lies the historic mission town of Livingstonia, perched on the Rift Valley escarpment. Nearby, the thundering Manchewe Waterfall plunges 125 metres into a lush gorge, its spray catching the sunlight like shattered glass.
Lake Malawi stretches vast and glittering to the horizon, home to over a thousands unique cichlid species. Along its shores, fishermen paddle at dawn, children play in the surf, and travellers soak in the endless African sky.
