INTO AFRICA
THE RHYTHM OF LIFE
ROBERT HAIDINGER
ANGOLA CALLS ITSELF“ THE RHYTHM OF LIFE.” YOU’ LL HEAR IT IN WATERFALLS THAT ROAR AND DESERTS THAT FALL SILENT, FEEL IT IN LUANDA’ S NIGHT-TIME SWAY, AND SEE IT IN A CHILD’ S ROADSIDE SMILE. THIS COUNTRY DOESN’ T WANT TOURISTS, IT WANTS TRAVELLERS; AND ONCE YOU JOIN THE RHYTHM, IT NEVER LEAVES YOU.
Kaluanda( also Kalandula) Waterfalls
Angola doesn’ t ease you in. It sweeps you off your feet. Stand before Kalandula Falls and you’ ll understand. Twice the height of Niagara, the torrents crash into a gorge fringed with rainforest, sending a silver mist curling into the sky. Rainbows stretch across the spray like ribbons. Locals call it Kaluanda, a sacred place as well as a natural wonder.
Part one: nature & adventure This is Angola’ s wild face: landscapes carved by water, wind, and time. The Cubal River Gorge snakes through green valleys, a reminder of the country’ s lifeblood
