Rotary Club of Northlakes Toukley In Touch March 2014 | Seite 8

Thank you to the members of the Rotary Club of Northlakes Toukley. Thank you so, so much. It is because of you that I was able to attend NYSF. It is no understatement to say that it was the greatest experience of my life. The experiences I had and the friendships I made will last me for a lifetime. NYSF is a lifechanging experience. Lab visits, lectures, tutorials, actual conversations with prestigious scientists, NYSF is the greatest program an aspiring young scientist can undertake. It solidified my dreams, made them achievable, has given me so many opportunities and has allowed me to make so many connections. So thank you, because without your help I wouldn't be the person I am right now. Please, any students that need your help and your sponsorship in the future, if you can afford it, please give it to them. They really need it. As I said before, it's only because of your help that I was able to make the program, and it's only because of you that future students will be able to make this program also. So thank you. Thank you so very very much. It's because of you that I was able to have this experience, and I hope you understand how much that means to me. When Toukley (now Northlakes Toukley) Rotarian Ray Crocker’s son Noel was on exchange in Texas USA he met a young man named Matthew who had applied for exchange in Australia but had not been successful. Noel contacted his father to see if something could be done. With the approval of then Toukley Rotary President Bill Symington the exchange was organised and within two weeks Matthew was settling in to life on the Central Coast at Warnervale. During his time on the Coast Matthew attended Gorokan High School and assisted the Crockers with the horses on their property at Warnervale. While touring Australia in 2003 to promote his movie “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” Matthew spoke to When Matthew McConaughey picked up his Oscar his host mum Eileen Crocker who was in Wyong for best actor for his role in the Dallas Buyers Club Hospital, wishing her well. “It made her life so much there was no one happier than his local “Families” the Crockers and Symingtons.
