The National Youth Science Forum What Is The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) It is now 30 years since the National Science Summer School Inc. began operations with Rotary in Australia as the founding partner. Now trading as the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), this national not-for-profit organisation enjoys high-level support with the Governor-General of Australia as its Patron, and the Chief Scientist of Australia, its President. The NYSF aims to nurture and encourage young Australians to be the next generation of leading scientists and engineers supporting a sustainable future for our nation. The NYSF offers a growing suite of programs across Australia to develop the exposure of Year 12 science students to study, research and future employment opportunities. The NYSF is proudly in partnership with the Australian governments, major industry, national research institutes and universities. Prospective candidates must be sponsored by a Rotary Club and undergo a rigorous selection process. NYSF 2014 In 2013 our club received a request from Tom Hagan for sponsorship to the 2014 Science Forum. On meeting Tom it became obvious that he would make a great candidate and there was no hesitation in supporting his request by sponsoring him and assisting in his ambition. Tom’s NYSF Story I am a Year 12 student at Mackillop Catholic College Warnervale The subjects I am studying for the HSC are: Chemistry, Mathematics and Math Extension 1, Physics, Biology, Standard English and Studies of Religion 1. I have two siblings a 13 year old sister and an 8 year old brother. What I did During NYSF I attended many Lab Visits, Forums, Talks and dinners. Among the Lab visits, a few of my favourites were attending soil analysis at a farm (for growth of crops), the physics laboratory (which study particles at very cold temperatures/study plasma) and a trip to the chemistry labs in ANU itself.
