Recent Meetings
The 30th July saw our first breakfast meeting of the new Rotary year. As McDonalds is one of our Golf Day
sponsors it was decided to have this meeting at McDonalds Lakehaven as something different. To make it
even more special we were able to have the privacy and atmosphere of the children’s party room.
One of our newest members, Brett Herbert spoke about recent tax changes and their impact on business
and also their effect on retirees and aged care.
It was great to see so many members able to brave the cold, early start to the day.
Our two recent guest speakers Peter
Sweeney (left) and Brett Herbert (right)
deep in discussion with President Peter
McCoskey, enjoying the conversation.
Lieutenant Colonel Peter Sweeney RFD (Retired) both entertained and informed us
at our meeting of the 6th August with his amazing presentation on the Gallipoli
campaign of the First World War. His knowledge of the events of this campaign, his
insights and understanding of those involved and his expert presentation made this
a memorable evening.
Peter joined the Australian Army Reserve (Infantry Corps) as an Officer Cadet in 1966
and served, raising through the ranks until he officially retired as a Lieutenant
Colonel in 2000. He has received a number of Awards and Commendations during
his service, and during his service and since retirement has travelled to a number of Historical Battlefields
across the world including Gallipoli, Islawanda, Rorkes Drift, Pearl H arbour and Normandy to name a few.
Today Peter is a Gallipoli Specialist and member of the Guild Of Battlefield Guides (UK).
