Spotlight On
Dave McKenney
Dave McKenney seems to be one of those guys who have been quietly hanging out in the background of the Trop Rock World just patiently waiting for the right time to emerge and take that Trop Rock
World by storm. Well, that time has finally arrived. His brand new
first effort has arrived. The album is aptly titled “Four Hour Lunch
Break” and the theme of the album seems to be ‘ok, I’m digging this
Trop Rock thing but I think I’ll take it just a small step further.’ And on the album plus in his
live performances, he certainly does. Hailing from Richmond, VA,
Dave has been compared to the likes of “Sunny Jim”, Paul Roush,
and John Frinzi. In fact, his only cover tune on the album is Frinzi’s
‘Bouyancy’, the rest being all original McKenney compositions.
Dave hasn’t put out the typical Trop Rock album of returning to
the same theme over and over but rather he tackles several
themes throughout with such as ‘Cold Reality’ and ‘Stupid People’. Don’t worry; with other tracks such as ‘Florida Kind Of Sunday’, he’ll also be taking you to familiar Trop Rock ground as well.
With ten tracks, a cover by renowned artist Dianne “Green
Woman” Wickes, and plenty of well known guest musicians, you will soon discover why
Dave McKenney is quickly becoming a house-hold name in the Trop Rock World. Be sure to
see Dave at BeachFront Radio’s Welcome To Key West Party on Wednesday October 30 th
beginning at noon at The Smokin’ Tuna Saloon.
