ROLAND-STORY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT FEBRUARY, 2014 FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT – Mike Billings Well, the superintendent interviews started last Thursday, and we have three more to hold for this week. It’s hard to believe the process is coming to a close, but like everyone has told me, time flies when you’re having fun. The Board will be making a final decision on my replacement soon, and I want to thank everyone who has been part of this endeavor for their help. There are many things about Roland-Story that make it an outstanding school district, but the unending support and volunteerism would stand out as a defining measure. I reflect back to fifteen years ago being so impressed with the numbers of calls or people stopping by to offer any assistance. As of today (February 3rd), our seniors have 63 school days left with us. Just a quick reminder for the parents of those kids, the last few months will fly by, and graduation will be here! Are you ready? As always, please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions you may have. I may not always have an answer for you, but I will certainly investigate situations that are brought to my attention. I also like to hear the good things! My office number is 733-4301 and my email address is mbillings@roland-story,k12.ia.us. If you want to stop in, it is sometimes wise to call and make appointments. If you don’t mind waiting, I can almost always find time for drop-ins. RSHS VARIETY SHOW “Celebrate the 80’s” -- Presented by Roland-Story High School -- High School Auditorium -- Admission: $5.00 --- Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st -- 7:00 p.m. -- Reserved Seating -- OPEN ENROLLMENT APPLICATIONS FOR 2014 - 2015 SCHOOL YEAR If you live outside of the Roland-Story CSD boundaries and wish to attend school at Roland-Story, you may apply for open enrollment. The deadline for open enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year is March 1, 2014 for students who will be in grades 1 12. The deadline for students entering kindergarten in 2014-2015 is September 1, 2014. Applicants need to submit forms to both their resident and receiving district for approval by the School Board before these deadlines. Some cases warrant applications being accepted after the deadlines, such as moving to a new district of residence. The Open Enrollment Handbook is available at the RolandStory School District Office or at http://www.iowa.gov/educate/ 2014-2015 forms are available at the Iowa Department of Education website or you can call our District Superintendent’s Office at 515-733-4301 to request a copy be mailed to you. If your student(s) have already been approved for open enrollment you do not need to go through the application process again, unless there has been a change of address since the approval was made. You do however need to apply for siblings who would be just starting school or are wanting to change districts. If you have any questions regarding open enrollment, please give Superintendent Mike Billings a call at 515-733-4301. The Roland-Story Color Guard will be on the Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Association championship highlight show on Iowa Public Television Saturday, February 1 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, February 2 at 2:00 PM.   Congratulations to the R-S Color Guard on finishing first overall! *Calendar Updates, Lunch Menus, Daily Bulletins & Newsletters can be found on our website: www.roland-story.k12.ia.us
