HUMMINGBIRD
(sp. Amazilia yucatanensis)
The Buff-Bellied Hummingbird migrates
through our area each year and attracts
numerous Bird Watchers. These birds
consume Flower Nectar and are known to
catch insects on the fly.
LORE: Since 1988, Rockport-Fulton has
been the host of the annual HummerBird
Celebration. (Sept. 13-16)
ROADRUNNER
(sp. Geococcyx californianus)
In our area, we have the Greater Roadrunner - I’m not surprised. We might not have
any Horny Toads left, but the Roadrunners
are still here, and ours are Great!
LORE: They’re a member of the Cuckoo
Family and have been called a Ground
Cuckoo.
COYOTE
(sp. Canis latrans)
Back in the 1970’s, even if you lived in the
middle of town, you could still hear the
Coyotes howling at night. We may not hear
them anymore, but they’re out there, and
you don’t have to drive very far out of the
city to find them - not that you would want
to, as they will attack humans.

LORE: In 2007, a strange animal
found on a ranch in Cuero, Tx
was thought to be a Chupacabra.
DNA evidence proved it a Coyote.
