Advanced Reviews David Juárez 1 The Pretty Reckless – “Going to Hell” After listening to the 2nd studio album of The Pretty Reckless I can say that the band has considerably raised its level. If their debut album showed one Taylor Momsem who stepped up uninhibitedly into the music business, now we can say that Taylor broke free from that and now she’s better than ever mixing her voice with a rock infusion of sounds that “Going to Hell” includes. “You” from their debut album, you’ll love “House on a Hill”, heavenly melodies, Taylor’s sharp voice and a base full of guitars will make of this song along with “Waiting for a Friend” one of the most beautiful tunes on this album. On the other side, for the fans who like their fast guitars, get ready for “Sweet Things” and “Absolution”. They’re much more than fast songs… The first one has lots of melody changes, several instruments and it features a male vocalist (Beauty and the Beast alike) “I’m evil knocking at your door… I don’t mind if you take what’s yours, but give me mine…” and the second one shows the full potential of the band; fast and straight verses and a melodic chorus carried away by soft guitars “Time keeps holding on, I need my… I need my absolution…” In short words, an album which we’ve loved from beginning to end, it keeps the basis of what The Pretty Reckless is, reinforcing their most traditional rock part and implementing a lot of melodies so all the fans can be pleased, but without losing any quality. “Going to Hell” comes out on March 18th by Razor & Tie. Score: 8’5/10 2 Lacuna Coil – “Broken Crown Halo” “Follow me down to the river, drink while the water is clean…” is the chorus of the first song “Follow Me Down”, a perfect mix of rock with Taylor’s fragile voice. Going to Hell, their first single, is a perfect sample of what this band is capable to do. Vibrant guitars, catchy melodies and an elegant and fast voice in the bridge make it a perfect combo. They surprise us with “Heaven Knows”, a song which music video has been already made. This can perfectly be a total musical hymn due to the kids choir we can hear in the chorus that adds some strength to the song. Some 30 Seconds to Mars songs rang my bell while listening to it. It’s perfect for the live shows along with “Why’d You Bring a Shotgun to the Party” which irradiates power and aggressiveness all the way, although it also includes a funny touch. For exchange, if you liked 4 Here it is the review of Lacuna Coil’s upcoming studio album “Broken Crown Halo”. What can I say? Lacuna Coil gave it all on this one, if they already told us that they included some cinematic touch and that most of the songs were connected between each other, they weren’t lying to us. We start with “Nothing stands in our way”, which will be their first single of the record, it keeps their typical structure with Cristina/Andrea as vocalists (verse-chorus-verse) but being this one slightly different since it’s pretty straight and Andrea surprise us doing some growls here and there. It’s a very good choice as single. “Zombies” keeps the theme of the previous one, with some fast music giving it a very melodic post-apocalyptic touch. Cristina only sings in a very sweet way in the chorus, which matches the sharp and rough Andrea’s voice who still irradiates his growls and some clean vocals on the verses.
