On The Last Sled the narrative touch reappears being part of the verses and will be present in all the song, along with Johanna Kurkela.
The chorus is being carried away by her angelic voice, there are some
choirs in the background and an incredible symphonic base, in the
middle of it the song will change and it will take a faster rhythm where
we could see again the power of the instruments that this records
presents and that towards the end will adopt the same structure as it
began with. It’s one of the most melodic and pretty songs, honestly.
Goodbye, Papa is next. Again we find a complete instrumental song
where an energic piano will be the key to the song; a few choirs can
be heard as well, but less. I cannot say anything else but this is a song
made for us to close our eyes and be carried to the world that Tuomas
has created. That’s art. To Be Rich will follow with a quite melodramatic tone guided by some beautiful violins and where Johanna will
sing along, it’s almost like a lament. The verses are very polished and
they interact perfectly with the instrumental layer. A very short but
concise song where all the elements we love are present.
A bell introduction will follow as the beginning of A Lifetime of Adventure. Since this one has already been released I’ll be brief and I won’t
say much. The song follows the esthetic of the other songs, with a
very polished instrumental base, Johanna’s voice spectacular as ever,
although she whispers on the verses and that gives it a very spiritual
touch to it. A few rhythm and instrumental changes will make this
song a perfect choice for a single. Along with The Last Sled it’s one of
the most melodic and catchy songs. Everything comes to an end, and
on this case, it comes by the hand of Go Slowly Now, Sands of Time; a
very soft and smooth piece, perfect to make this one the closure to
one of the greatest albums of 2014 so far.
A lot of people will be waiting to listen to this record whether they’re
love Nightwish or because Tuomas is one of their favorite composers…
I’m telling you that, without a doubt, this is not going to disappoint
you in any way; it’s a masterpiece of its kind, beautiful instrumental
pieces, heavenly choirs with a lot of power and the special features of
Johanna Kurkela and Tony Kakko. What else can I say? The Life and
Times of Scrooge must be part of the collection of all the people that
love the good music, the music that makes us dream and transport us
to other worlds. This record makes us daydream!
The Life and Times of Scrooge comes out the next April 11th by Nuclear Blast Records.
