A MOTORING EXTRAVAGANZA SPECIALLY FOR YOU: THE ST JAMES’ S MOTORING SPECTACLE HAS IT ALL!
It’ s 31 October, the Saturday before the big sendoff on Sunday morning, which means it’ s time for you and your family to enjoy the greatest free motor show anywhere. And it’ s in London!
The Royal Automobile Club, throughout its incredible history, has remained steadfastly at the heart of motoring in the capital. It’ s a bastion of encouragement to endeavour-on-wheels in every conceivable direction – fostering automotive engineering, competition and enjoyment in all its many forms. Each new era has its own challenges and advances, yet the Club is always there to‘ promote automobilism’ just as it did in is very earliest days. Then, cars had to share their roadspace in the city with horses; now, it’ s electric bikes!
But one very special arena where wheel life in all its forms is still wholly celebrated is the St James’ s Motoring Spectacle, and the third staging of this unique event promises to be more vivid and engaging than ever.
It grew out of a desire at the Royal Automobile Club to celebrate and share not only its own fascinating history, but also the remarkable story of car design and the achievements of motor sport, both in Britain and around the world. These exciting sectors never stop evolving, meeting the challenges of the future, and they call continually for new human talent, as well as maintenance of and respect for traditional skills.
At the same time, the gathering of the veteran car community for its historic Run is just too good, frankly, for Sunday morning, when raising Londoners is a tall order. There had to be a way to give back more to the city.
So the Club worked together to create a very special‘ motor show’ to take place on the eve of the RM Sotheby’ s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. And with the support and approval of Westminster City Council and the Crown Estate, the perfect place was made available to hold it: right outside the elegant Clubhouse on Pall Mall in St James’ s.
Indeed, with a great deal of careful planning and a small army of experienced people on hand, almost the whole of Pall Mall is closed off to through traffic for the greater part of Saturday, 31 October. The event opens to the public at 10am and closes five hours later at 3pm.
This means that all visitors – families very much included – can enjoy the many attractions in relaxed safety, while still soaking up the magnificent
