With Carroll Shelby by their side, they
decided it was time to return to Le Mans.
Unfortunately, the champion of American
racetracks didn’t win in Europe, where
racing had always been more challenging
than in America. Looking at their failure,
Shelby thought that if they could build a
coupe, they might have a better chance of
winning. The team started working with
the chassis of the crushed Cobra in Daytona and gave the vehicle a new style. By
the summer of '64, the Coupe was ready to
take on the best in the world. A car conceived and built in a few months was about
to represent the name not just of Carroll
Shelby, but of Ford America. Shelby’s last
five years of blood, sweat and tears were
about to face his rival, once again. The car
