Types of retailers
Department stores
Department stores which contains a variety in which different kinds of products are sold. E.g. Debenhams, which sells products in consessions. Which is where the department store would have small shops of another business within it. Department stores are large businesses with a turnover of £250million and 50+ members of staff.
Multiple retailer
A retail shop that has multiple locations but has common ownership and management. A multiple retailer is a retailer which has many chains and stores, e.g. River Island. Multiple stores would be established brands which are successful.
Independent retailer
An independent retailer is usually owned by a sole trader or a partnership. It tends to be a small business. The owner tends to run the operations of the business however they may hire staff to help run the daily running of the business.
Specialist store
Specialists stores are stores which they offer a narrow variety but deep assortment of merchandise in their category. An example of a specialist store is 'The Body Shop' where it sels only its own brand items and products are in the same type of products.
