SENIOR HIGHLIGHTS
Y6 / 7 SCIENCE TRANSITION DAY
Year 6 and 7 enjoyed an explosive demonstration of scientific experiments ; a taster of the exciting learning that awaits Y6 ’ s when they start Senior School next year .
Y8 SCIENCE FAIR
Following the successful progression of the Prep School science fair over the last few years , Year 8 took part in their very own fair for the first time this term . Coordinated by Mrs Edmunds , the Fair included some very innovative scientific presentations about UV protection , water cycles and pollution caused by plastic bags .
SCIENTIFICALLY SPEAKING ….
Year 8 took part in a combined Science / English initiative in the last week of term . Each team was required to present a carefully researched and evidenced scientific argument to issues such as meat consumption and flood defence — developing core scientific skills and persuasive articulation and presentation of their arguments .
Y8 MATHS AND SCIENCE DAY
The second Y8 joint science and mathematics fun day took place in June . Students took part in a range of linked activities that tested both their mathematical skills and their ability to apply scientific principles to a range of problems and questions including Codebreaking , ‘ How hot is the sun ?’ and ‘ Who Killed Mr . Allen ?’. It ’ s always the quiet ones ….
Y6 / 7 MATHS TRANSITION DAY
On Wednesday 21 st June , all Year 6 and 7 students took part in four fun and engaging mathematical challenges . Students were split into groups named after famous mathematicians and they spent the day using their problem solving and team work skills . The four activities — shape business , tangrams , constructions and code breaking — were a great success among all students . The transition event was another valuable opportunity for students to make new friends , for the year 6 students to become familiar with the Senior School and for the junior and senior teachers to work closely together . Overall , it was a successful and enjoyable day and the students had some great feedback about their experience .
