STUDENTS PUT ON A GRAND SHOW
On 15 th June , Shrewsbury was very pleased to accept an invitation from the British Embassy to be part of its birthday celebrations for HM Queen Elizabeth II , at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel .
A team of six creative students from Years 9 and 10 prepared a brilliant display for the event on the theme of ‘ British Innovation ’ that showcased the life and achievements of Thomas Telford ; a renowned British engineer , architect and stonemason , noted particularly for his landmark works near to Shrewsbury in the UK .
Before the 1,000 invited guests arrived , The British Ambassador , His Excellency Mr Brian Davidson , met with the students and talked with them about their display ; a fittingly creative tribute to Telford , and exhibiting a quality of work that Shrewsbury ’ s own ambassadors should be very proud of !
SUPER CYCLING MAN FLIES BY
In June , Will Hodson , former primary school teacher and student of Shrewsbury School UK ( 1990-1995 ) popped into Shrewsbury International School Bangkok ; a whistlestop visit on his 5- year , 100,000km cycling adventure across all 7 continents of the world ( including Antarctica ).
Naturally , “ Super Cycling Man ” has been dressed as a superhero throughout his adventure ! Will ’ s goal is to raise £ 100,000 to support the amazing work done by The World Cancer Research Fund , Parkinson ’ s UK , World Bicycle Relief and Sustrans , a UK charity that promotes cycling and sustainable transport .
THANK YOU SHREWSBURY !
This year , the Shrewsbury Community has raised over 2 million baht to support local , national and international causes . The Charity Committee , Year 10 Charity Reps and volunteers celebrated our relationship with our local charity partners ( The Mercy Centre , The Hub , The Good Shepherd Sisters Bangkok , CCD and The Thai Muslim School ) at a special Charity Party on 21st June .
The children and young adults ate snacks , danced and played fun activities and games , organised by The Year 10 Charity Reps . Mr . Holroyd and Ms . Dennison presented each charity with their cheque donation . It was a very joyous occasion !
Thank you to everyone for their dedication , compassion and generosity this year – it has made a real difference !
Will is also aiming to inspire children , adults , indeed everyone he meets along the way to get out on their bikes and have an adventure ; a message which certainly seemed to resonate with students here at Shrewsbury and who really enjoyed his assemblies and time with them .
Our very best wishes to Will . We ’ re hoping that he may come around for a second lap sometime in the future ! If you would like to find out more about Will ’ s adventures , visit his website http :// supercyclingman . com /
Staff and children from CCD receive their cheque for 200,00 THB
