Step Up with New
Way of Educating
Durning Pandemic
In mid-March Inver Grove Heights
and South St. Paul Public Schools
responded to Governor Walz’
Executive Order to close schools due
to the COVID-19 pandemic. In just
eight days staff and teachers pivoted
to implement Distance Learning, which
would continue for 10 weeks through
the end of the school year. In that
time, teachers and paraprofessionals
connected with students and families to
provide meaningful learning.
By March 18, the food service and
transportation departments set up an
Emergency School Meals Program with
meal distribution sites throughout both
communities. Since they started, staff
have provided 20,000 boxes of meals
to children in Inver Grove Heights and
approximately 4,500 meals each day
in South St. Paul. The Summer Meals
program will continue free meals for
children; more information can be found
by visiting the school districts’ website.
ISD 199 schools also distributed nearly
1,700 devices, including internet hotspots,
to students to keep their learning on track
for the year and allow them to connect with
