Bead Society of the Month Bead Society of The Palm Beaches Q. 1. When was your bead society founded and how did the idea come about? A. 1. The Bead Society was founded in January of this year. We are brand new and so happy that it has worked out the way it has. We are up to 175 members. The idea came about when a few of us were sitting around beading together and I said "why don't we start a bead society so we can all bead together". We thought it was a great idea and just rolled with it. We got people together to form a board, found a great location and then started all the hard work. Q. 2. Can you tell our readers a little about the different events/activities your society holds or participates in? A. 2. Our Society holds a meeting once a month on the first Thursday at a beautiful country club in the City of Atlantis. We all get together for a lovely dinner first then have our meeting after. At the meetings we have door prizes and raffles and we also have a great show and tell and membership challenges. We also hold a get together on the third Saturday of the month called "Bead Soup". Everyone brings their beading and we have one of the board members or one of the local bead shops demonstrate a stitch or a featured piece. We charge 10 dollars for the day and that includes your lunch also. We participate in all our local bead shows in the area where we set up a table with our logo and lots of pieces that our members have made. This gets the word out about our society and shows people what you can learn from us. The society is proud to be associated with two charities in our area. The first one is Hope House of the Palm Beaches and the other one is Joanne's Cottage. With both of these we volunteer time, teac h jewelry and donate finished jewelry for the girls to wear. We are very proud of our girls and want them to succeed. 24| October-November | RitzyToo! | RitzyToo.com
