Donkey's Revenge
One warm blue-skied summer day a farmer was heading in for lunch
and heard a donkey crying piteously. The farmer investigated by
following the sound. Finally, he discovered that his old donkey had
fallen into the well.
He, of course, felt the frantic need to help the poor critter. After
thinking of all possible angles of rescue he finally just decided that
the old donkey was too old to worry about, and the open well was
dangerous anyway. So, after considerable thought, he made up his
mind that it just wasn't worth it to save the donkey.
The plan he hatched was to ask his neighbors to come over and help bury the donkey alive.
The farmer and his neighbors began to shovel dirt furiously to fill up the well. Pausing for a
moment, they discovered to their astonishment the donkey had figured out a way to save
himself. With each shovel full of dirt that hit his back the donkey would simply shake it off
and take a step up. This caused the farmers to shovel even faster which caused the donkey
to continue his strategy. Presently, the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and, to
everyone's amazement, trotted off.
Life is going to shovel all kinds of nasty dirt and rocks on you from time to time. The strategy
of choice, in that case, is always the same: shake it off and take a step up. In fact, all of our
troubles are nothing more than a stepping stone. We can all get out of the deepest wells we
encounter by not losing site of this story. NEVER GIVE UP!
That's right, just shake it off and take a step up. Remember the five simple rules for
happiness
1. Free your heart from hatred and FORGIVE
2. Free your mind from worries, most never happen
3. Live simply and appreciate what you have
4. Give more … givers gain
5. Expect less …. be thankful for your blessings
Later when they were standing around talking about what they had seen, the donkey came
back. To everyone's surprise, he walked right over and bit the farmer that had tried to bury
him. The gash from the bite got a terrible infection and the farmer eventually died from this
infection.
The moral? When you do something wrong and try to cover it up, it will surely come back to
bite you.
