WELCOME
Welcome to the winter 2020 issue of Risk & Business Magazine .
In this issue of Risk & Business , we continue on a similar theme as in the past few issues by discussing the impact of COVID-19 on businesses . Although the current public safety measures put in place aren ’ t quite as severe as earlier this year , it is still a fluid situation and businesses need to keep a close eye on their operations and future plans . When you throw in an election year on top of that , preparing for 2021 is a daunting task !
Some companies have started to bring employees back to the office to varying degrees . Other companies are making plans to have employees return to offices in early 2021 . From the conversations I have had lately , most , if not all , companies cannot operate at nearly the same degree of effectiveness when the majority of their employees are working remotely . Although we have found that companies were able to use technology to avoid shutting down completely , that is being viewed as only a temporary solution . In the long run , it will be essential for the majority of employees to return to the office .
From an insurance perspective , employers need to review how their workers ’ compensation and other lines of coverage may be impacted by having the majority of their employees working from their homes and having even more company property than usual being used outside of company facilities . And it has become much more difficult to determine if an injury at home is work related or if it occurred on personal time .
Employees will probably have a difficult time deciding what is the best solution for them . Many feel they can work just as effectively from home as in the office . Others may have originally liked the idea of working from home , but they have since found that it adds extra stress to their lives and they are starting to experience burnout . That will be something employers need to address as it will still be some time before it is safe to have the majority of employees return to the office .
We appreciate the opportunity to share the valuable information found inside this magazine with you .
