KR BRICK & STONE SPOTLIGHT KR Brick & Stone: STONE AESTHETICS Construction may seem simple at first glance. Put a floor in, some walls, a ceiling and now there is a structure ready to go. Except it isn’t that simple. Aside from all of the “guts” of the building (plumbing, AC work, electrical, etc.), there is also the design and aesthetic component. A large part of that, especially in modern homes, is brick and stone. Keen Roeker, owner and founder of KR Brick & Stone, understands that better than anyone. In 2013, Keen founded KR Brick & Stone to help service the local residential brick and stone market, especially for new construction. The focus since that time has been on the cosmetic side, making new and older homes look a little more spruced up than they would otherwise. Keen has been in the industry almost his whole life. During high school and college, he worked for a brick and stone company. After college, however, he went into finance and worked in an office for a couple of years. Fairly soon afterward, however, Keen realized he simply wasn’t cut out for sitting still in an office all day, every day. He needed to get back outside and do what he enjoyed doing. He found a good opportunity to get back into the industry where he already had so much knowledge, so he jumped in headfirst and the rest is history. While many companies focus on fill and large-scale rock and stone deposits for huge construction projects, Keen places a focus on the smaller residential aesthetic projects instead. It is a niche within a niche and allows him to focus on exactly what customers want. Risks are always present in any new business, and KR Brick & Stone is no exception to that. To help mitigate those risks, Keen turned to Nesbit Agencies. He has known an agent at Nesbit since college, and that relationship is how Nesbit Agencies began to handle the risk management and insurance for KR Brick & Stone. Like any business, KR requires general business and liability insurance, workers’ compensation for employees, and insurance for the vehicles used during the course of business. Additionally, there are all the risks associated with construction work, which can lead to a number of unique (and costly) challenges. Nesbit handles all of these with ease. + FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT KR BRICK & STONE OR TO FIND OUT HOW THEY CAN HELP WITH YOUR NEXT PROJECT, REACH OUT TO KEEN AT 507-317-7100. 4
