The Saskatchewan Abilities Council:
Helping Those In Need
S
ince its founding in 1950, the
Saskatchewan Abilities Council
(Council) has been committed to
providing programs and services
to individuals with disabilities in
Saskatchewan. This nonprofit organization
was originally founded by families of
children with cerebral palsy who believed
that education, treatment, and services
for their children could be improved. Over
the years, the Council gradually expanded
its programs and services to encompass
children, youth, and adults with a wide
range of abilities. In 1984, it changed its
name to reflect these changes and became
known as the Saskatchewan Abilities
Council.
Over the past sixty-five years, the Council
has been dedicated to helping individuals
with disabilities stay connected to their
communities, improve their quality of
life, and ensure equality and inclusion for
everyone. With this focus on enriching
lives, the Saskatchewan Abilities Council
works directly with individuals to enhance
their independence and participation in
the community through a wide range of
vocational, rehabilitation, and recreational
programs. With branches across the
province, the Council’s services are farreaching to say the least. Each year the
Council supports over sixty thousand
people in our province—from providing
employment readiness skills training
to helping individuals feel welcome
and accepted in their community to
supplying custom-fitting back braces and
orthopaedics.
Employment training and job placement
programs are one of the key services
the Council delivers. The Partners in
Employment program offers a range of
employment services designed to support
