ABILITIES COUNCIL SUMMER FUN IS A RECREATIONAL PROGRAM OFFERED BY THE SASKATCHEWAN ABILITIES COUNCIL FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES AIMED AT FOSTERING COMMUNITY INTEGRATION AND INDEPENDENCE. PARTICIPANTS PARTAKE IN A NUMBER OF COMMUNITY EVENTS, THE EXHIBITION BEING A FAVOURITE FOR MANY. The Saskatchewan Abilities Council: Helping Those In Need S ince its founding in 1950, the Saskatchewan Abilities Council (Council) has been committed to providing programs and services to individuals with disabilities in Saskatchewan. This nonprofit organization was originally founded by families of children with cerebral palsy who believed that education, treatment, and services for their children could be improved. Over the years, the Council gradually expanded its programs and services to encompass children, youth, and adults with a wide range of abilities. In 1984, it changed its name to reflect these changes and became known as the Saskatchewan Abilities Council. Over the past sixty-five years, the Council has been dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities stay connected to their communities, improve their quality of life, and ensure equality and inclusion for everyone. With this focus on enriching lives, the Saskatchewan Abilities Council works directly with individuals to enhance their independence and participation in the community through a wide range of vocational, rehabilitation, and recreational programs. With branches across the province, the Council’s services are farreaching to say the least. Each year the Council supports over sixty thousand people in our province—from providing employment readiness skills training to helping individuals feel welcome and accepted in their community to supplying custom-fitting back braces and orthopaedics. Employment training and job placement programs are one of the key services the Council delivers.
